Amber post top lights can be used for a variety of reasons. Customers often ask us if we carry post top lights in LED amber colors. Our answer to this question is – yes, we do, and we have amber post top lights in two different varieties: 2200K and 590nm. Read on to learn the difference between these warm amber post top light varieties.
2200K Amber Post Top Lights
2200K is a warm color temperature, or Kelvin, often used to replace high pressure sodium lighting which emits the same warm orange glow. It is actually in the same spectrum as 3000K, 4000K, and 5000K, and it is technically considered white light. High pressure sodium is a form of induction lighting, and over the years has been slowly replaced by LED lighting due to its efficiency and better color rendering. Post top lights in 2200K are a great choice due to their longevity, color rendering, and ability to replace antique high pressure sodium light fixtures.

590nm Amber Post Top Lights
If it’s the ability to protect wildlife that you’re after, amber post top lights in 590nm might be a better choice. Access Fixtures’ 590nm post top lights emit a narrow wavelength of light that turtles and other wildlife cannot see. Post tops in 590nm amber are also more dark sky friendly than other post top lights including 2200K as they do not interfere with telescopes and observatories.
